History
The Sikh Sangat Charitable Association Newcastle Incorporated was officially established in the year 2020. In its early days, the community came together to hold Weekly Diwans in the homes of various member.
As the community steadily grew, the need for a more stable and accessible location became clear. In 2023, the Weekly Diwans were relocated to Woodberry, where they continue to take place regularly. This move has allowed for more consistent participation, better accessibility, and greater community engagement.
Looking toward the future, land has been purchased in Rutherford, and plans are well underway for the construction of a Gurdwara. This new Gurdwara is expected to be completed by 2025, at which point all religious and community activities, including the Weekly Diwans, will be transitioned to the new premises.
In addition to religious services, the Sikh Sangat Charitable Association remains committed to the core Sikh principle of selfless service (sewa). Since 2023, we have been operating a weekly langar sewa program in Woodberry. Every Tuesday, a free food stall is set up to serve nutritious vegetarian meals to anyone in need. This initiative not only provides sustenance but also fosters inclusivity, compassion, and community spirit—values that are deeply rooted in Sikh teachings.
Through continued efforts in both spiritual enrichment and social outreach, the Sikh Sangat Charitable Association Newcastle Incorporated aims to build a stronger, more connected community for generations to come.
